Treatment of Macular Hole Occuring After Vitrectomy
Kim Yun-Young

Abstract
Purpose: To report a case of macular hole occurred after successful vitrectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

Methods: We performed combined phacoemulsification and vitrectomy for diabetic vitreous hemorrhage. Two weeks after surgery, macular hole was developed and we performed vitrectomy with internal limiting membrane peeling and gas tamponade but could not attain the anatomical success. Four months after first macular hole surgery, we performed secondary vitrectomy in conjunction with endolaser photocoagulation on the bed of macular hole and the patient received strict prone position.

Results: Anatomical closure of the hole was achieved after secondary vitrectomy for macular hole but functional outcome was limited.

Conclusion: Macular hole could be developed after successful vitrectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy but we attained anatomical success of macular hole after additional vitrectomy including internal limiting membrane peeling and endolaser photocoagulation on the bed of macular hole.
