Abstract
Composite tumor of neuroendocrine and adenocarcinoma is a rare histologic type of carcinoma of the gallbladder. We report a case of composite neuroendocrine and adenocarcinoma of the gallbladder, occuring in a 68-year-old female with symptoms of pain in right upper quadrant for 3 months. Under the impression of cholelithiasis, the patient underwent a laparoscopic cholesystectomy. Histologically, the tumor was composed of mainly large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma, infiltrating whole layer of gallbladder wall and also accompanied with moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma in mucosal layer. These neuroendocrine tumor cells showed strong immunoreactivity for chromongranin A, CD56 and synaptophysin. The patient was died at 5 months after surgery.
