A Statistical Study of Dermatoses in the Payatas, Philippines

Abstract
Background: Occurrence of dermatoses is influenced by various environmental factors in the residential area. There have been a few reports concerning data of comparison with a foreign country.

Materials and Methods: To study the prevalence of common dermatoses and to compare these with previous
reports, we have reviewed 168 patients who had visited the volunteer medical service in Payatas.

Results: Among the 168 patients, the total numbers of male patients were 46(27.38%), female patients were 99(58.93%) and patients that sex is unknown were 23(13.69%). The frequency of age groups are as follows: 3rd decades(17.26%), 6th decades(17.26%), 2nd decades(16.07%), 5th decades(15.48%), 1st decades (12.50%), 4th decades(11.90%), 7th decades(5.36%), 8th decades(1.19%). The 15 most common dermatoses were found to be Allergic contact dermatitis, Lichen Simplex Chronicus, Pruritus, Dermatophytosis, Eczema, Irritant contact dermatitis, Pityriasis versicolor, Scabies, Acne, Folliculitis, Impetigo, Milia, Seborrheic dermatitis, Paronychia, Toxic erythema. The distributions of dermatoses as disease groups were pruritus and neurocutaneous dermatose(18.29%), contact dermatitis and drug eruptions(14.29%), bacterial infections(13.14%), diseases resulting from fungi and yeasts(11.43%), atopic dermatitis, eczema and non-infectious immunodeficiency disorders(9.14%), seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, recalcitrant palmoplantar eruptions, pustular dermatitis and erythroderma(6.29%), parasitic infestations, stings and bites(6.29%), erythema and urticaria(5.1%), acne(3.43%), epidermal nevi, neoplasms and cysts(3.43%) constituted 90.83% of the total.
