2 Case reports of Bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) on mandible

Abstract
Bisphosphonates are drugs used for osteoporosis, metastatic bone diseases, Paget¡¯s disease and multiple myeloma.
These drugs have high affinity on bone remodeling site and inhibit bone resorption. Since bisphosphonates have long
half-reduction time, they accumulate at bone and act for a long time. Recently, jaw bone necrosis was reported in some patients who have taken bisphosphonates for osteoporosis or other bone disease. It is called Bisphosphonate-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaws (BRONJ). It can appear after oral surgery, especially extraction of teeth or surgery of implantation. In two female patients with osteoporosis taking bisphosphonates for a long time, osteonecrotic mandibular lesions occurred after extraction of teeth. We successfully treated two patients using both surgical methods and conservative management.
