Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the effects of clinical performance competence and metacognition of nursing students about an admission care of pregnant women with pre-term labor using standardized patients (SPs).

Materials and Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design to investigate levels of clinical performance
competence and metacognition in 52 nursing students at C University in D city. This research was analyzed with a nonequivalent control group post-test. SPs were trained for inter-obsever reliability. The experimental group (n=27) participated in evaluation using SPs on the clinical performance competence that tested the ability to assess a patient with the pre-term labor. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive analysis, Fisher¡¯s exact test, ¥ö2 test, and independent t-test.

Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups in clinical performance competence (t=-0.706, p=.483) and metacognition (t=-0.271, p=.787).

Conclusion: These results indicate that the well designed pre-education is needed before the clinical performance evaluation for enough time. Full debriefing time in clinical performance also is needed after the clinical performance evaluation for an effective learning. Further evaluating the improvement of clinical performance competence
improvement through the meta-cognitive validation studies should be continued.
