Abstract
Purpose: Foot reflexology is a therapeutic method to apply pressure to specific points or area on the feet to increase blood supply to internal organs. This alternative treatment is currently used to improve cancer-related symptoms,
such as pain, as supportive care in cancer patients.

Methods: This study reviewed published randomized clinical trials (RCTs) adopting foot reflexology in various
cancer patients. This review will confirm the safety and efficacy of reflexology and establish the right direction for
further investigation. RCTs from ¡°PubMed¡± and ¡°RISS¡±, up to date, were searched and the search terms were
¡°reflexology¡±, ¡°cancer¡±, ¡°massage¡± and Korean words related to reflexology.

Results: Since the 1980s, total 8 articles met our concern, which included 2 articles assessing blood circulation, 3
articles pain control, 1 quality of life, with significant importance compared with control group. Instead, 2 articles
assessing dyspenia and postoperation recovery each, showed no significant difference.

Conclusion: Foot reflexology may be considered as a symptom management for the improvement of physical or
psychological symptoms related with cancer.
