Multiple Schwannomas without Neurofibromatosis

Abstract
|
|
|
Most of the schwannomas are benign and solitary. Sometimes schwannomas are multiple in presence of
neurofibromatosis. However, multiple schwannomas without neurofibromatosis are rare. A 56-year-old woman
showed right arm tingling sensation and numbness below the chest. She had operation history of schwannomas on
right median nerve at wrist. There were no family history of neurofibromatosis and skin lesion like cafe´-au-lait spot.
Multiple schwannomas were founded at C7, C8, T12 levels of spine and around right brachial plexus on MRI. There
was no acoustic neuroma on brain MRI. After removal of cervical spine masses and steroid pulse therapy, right arm
tingling sensation improved. We report a case of multiple schwannomas without neurofibromatosis.
