A Case of Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter Baumannii Ventriculitis Treated with Intraventricular Colistin Therapy in Extremely Low Birth Weight Infant

Abstract

|
Acinetobacter baumannii is a notorious pathogen of neonatal intensive care unit. We report here a case of multidrugresistant Acinetobacter baumannii ventriculitis treated with intraventricular colistin therapy in extremely low birth
weight infant. The patient had been born at 23+4 weeks gestation by cesarean delivery and weighed 760 g at our
hospital. He had intraventricular hemorrhage and posthemorhagic hydrocephalus, so we did extraventricular drainage
for seven days. After 1month later, ventriculitis developed due to multidrung resistent Acinetobacter baumannii and
pus was drained. And then, he was treated with intravenous and intraventricular colistin. Seven days after treatment,
cerebrospinal fluid was clear and culture was negative.
