This study was conducted to suggest the Cinnamomum cassia Presl and Rehmannia glutinosa Liboschitz Complex (CRC) possibility of use as a functional natural material for improved inflammatory response.
Cinnamomum cassia Presl and Rehmannia glutinosa Liboschitz were mixed in a 2:1 ratio, extracted with hot water, and then powdered and used in the study. After, the cytotoxicity of CRC for RAW264.7 cell were evaluated by MTT assay, the anti-inflammatory effect in macrophages was evaluated by ELISA, qRT-PCR, and western blot assay. CRC did not proliferate macrophages but decreased nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2 production in LPS-induced RAW264.7 cell. Also,
decreased NOS2 and PTGS2 gene expression, and ERK, JNK, and p38 protein phosphorylation in a concentration-dependent manner. As a result, CRC have regulated the production and expression of inflammatory cytokines in LPS-induced RAW264.7 cell. Therefore, it is thought that CRC can be used as a functional natural material that improving nflammatory response.
