Abstract
We have observed the frequency of the infection and it¢¥s frequency per year by 1606 diabetic patients who had been admitted to Inchon christian hospital from 1985 to 1989.
And clinical observation was done by 113 diabetic patients having infection and 108 diabetic patients having no infection after 1988 when HbAlc has been possible. We obtained the following results.
1) The frequency of infectous disease in patients with diabetes mellitus was 21.5% and it¢¥s frequency per year decreased until 1987, after that it goes up.
2) The duratin of DM was mainly less than 4 year and the increase of the duration didnot relate to the frequency of the infection.
3) The initial fasting blood sugar from dead group by infection was 248.4 mg/dl, study group was 227.8 mg/dl, and control group was 186.8 mg/dl. It suggests that the initial fasting blood sugar is higher, the prognosis is worse.
4) Pulmonary tuberculosis and urinary tract infection was 20% each. Next was pneumonia and skin infection orderly. Pulmonary tuberculosis was mainly deyeloped in man and urinary tract infection was mainly developed in woman.
5) The mortality of diabetic patient by infection was 0.7% and it¢¥s portion was 3.5% among the diabetic patients who have developed infection. The most common infection was pneumonia.
