A Clinical Study of Colorectal Cancer

Abstract
This paper represents a clinical analysis and review 122 cases of colorectal cancer who were treated in General surgery of Gyeong-Sang National University Hospital from May 1987 to May 1994. The results were as follow: 1) the ratio between male and female was 1.26 : 1 and age incidence showed mostprevalence in 6th decades-50 patients(41%)
2) the most common site of occurance was rectum-76 patients(65.6%) and followed by ascending colon-15 patients(13%), sigmoid colon-12 patients(10.4%), descending colon-7 patients (6%), transverse colon- 3 patients(2.6%) in order.
3) CEA level was checked and the number of its normal value were 21 patients(19.8%). 4) Surgical resection rate was 91.8% and operation method were abdominoperineal resection-47 cases(38.5%), low anterior resection-31 cases(25.4%),
Right hemicolectomy-19 cases(15.6%), Anterior resection-11 cases(9%), and Left hemicolectomy-4 cases(3.3%) in order.
5) the tumors were classified by Astler-Coller¡¯s Classification: stage C2 was 34 cases 28.8 %) most common, B1-27 cases(22.9%), B2-26 cases(22% ), D-18 cases(15.3%), Cl-12 cases(10.2%), A-1 case(0.8%) in order. 6) In pathologic finding, adenocarcinoma was most common-105 cases(97.2%) well-differentiated type-78 cases(74.3%), moderately differentiated type-18 cases(17.1%), poorly differentiated type-9 cases (8.6%) in order; and lymphoma-2 cases(1.8%),
carcinoid-1 case(0.9%). 7) In gross finding of the tumor, ulcerofungating type was most common-42 cases(4
0£¥), ulcerative type-40 cases(38%), fungating type-21 cases(20%), annular stricture type-2 cases (19%) in order.
8) The most common postoperative complication was wound infection-20 cases(16.4%). 9) 69 of 122 cases were followed up and the 5 years survival rate was analysed by Kaplan-Meier¡¯s method: the overall 5 years survival rate was 62.1%.
