Abstract

The appendix has been reported to be a very rare leading point in intussusception with an incidence of 0.01% in surgical and postmortem specimens. In many cases it was developed by secondary conditions, such as polyps, carcinomas, or mucoceles. Some other cases had none of the initiating causes. Therefore, making an accurate diagnosis is important in providing the optimal treatment for the patient. Here, the author presents an appendiceal intussusception case of a 37-year-old male patient whose vermiform appendix had none of the initiating causes. The preoperative diagnosis was an appendiceal mucocele, but an appendiceal intussusception was detected after the operation. The patient was managed with a laparoscopic partial cecectomy and has been followed up. J Korean Soc Coloproctol 2008;24:223-227
