|
Fiteen Ixodes ticks were captured at Chungbuk and Kangwon province in Korea. The number of adult female ticks was seven and that of adult male was two. The others were nymphs. Adult ticks were identified as Ixodes persulcatus. But nymphs were nt
identified.
Three strains of B. burgdorferi, KonKuk-1, KonKuK-2 and Kangwon-1 were isolated from them. It was the first case of isolation of B. burgdorferi in Korea. The isolation rate was 20 percent.
This study thus strongly suggested that Lyme disease may exist in Korea.
