Clinical Study of the Regional Frequency of the Mandibular Fractures

Abstract
As world became civilized, development of transportation system increased. It brought serious facial bone injuries and 2/3 injuries resulted as mandibular fractures. During May of 1972 through May of 1978, Department of Plastic Surgery of Hanyang University Hospital was faced with 77 patients with mandibular fractures.

The acquired results were summerized as follows;

1. Out of all the patients between ages of 3 and 80, 80.5% of the mandibular fractures involved males.

2. Automobile accident was the main cause of the mandibular fractures and they were 58.4%.

3. In regional frequency of the mandibular fractures: the symphisis fractures showed 39.8%, angle 25.2%, condyle 16.5%, body15.5%, coronoid 2.0%, and ramus 1.0

4. Automobile accidents showed high percentage of the symphisis fracture and fist blow showed high percentage of the body fracture.

5. In multiple fractures of the mandible, more than 42.3% of the symphisis fracture os accompanied with condylar fracture.
