Abstract
371 Gram-negative bacilli, lactose fermenters and non-lactose fermenters as well, isolated and identified at Korea University Hospital from January 1, 1979 to June 30, 1979 had been compared its susceptibility to amikacin, new aminoglycoside, with other widely used antibiotics; kanamycin, gentamicin and tobramycin.
Amikacin proved its efficacy over other antibiotcs tested showing susceptibilities of 94.7%, 94.6%, 91.7% and 45.5% to Proteus rettgeri, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Proteus morganii and Serratia marcescens, respectively.
Amikacin was also revealed as the most effective anti-microbial agent in overall susceptibility testing against the isolates with seusitivity of 87.6% followed by gentamicin, 68.6%, tobramycin, 50.9%, and kanamycin, 47.4%.
