Abstract

|
Hyperparathyroidism represents the clinicopathologic changes produced in the course of time .through the influence of excessive amounts of circulating parathyroid hormone. Instances of clinical hyperparathyroidism fall into two categories-primary. and secondary.
Primary hvperparathyrod~sm may result from: (1) parathyroid adenoma, (2) diffuse hyperplasia of all the parathyroids (usually four) ; or (3) a parathyroid carcinoma.
The authors experienced primary hyperparathyroidism associated -with multiple pathological fractures that are multiple rib fractures, compression fracture of 4th lumbar vertebra and pubic rami fractures.
After parathyroidectomy, X-ray revealed moderately improvement of pathological fractures and pain of hip joint was su~sided.
Post operative 6 weeks later, she could walk without any support.
So we report a case of primary hyperparathyroidism associated with multiple pathological fractures and review of literatures.
