Abstract
The tibia is the most common site of all long bone fracture and its anatomical property cause many complications during treatment. Especially, distal tibial shaft fracture causes lots of difficult problems because it invoves intra-articular
fracture
frequently. Which makes it hard to maintain state of reduction of fracture. May Anatomical Bone Plate is considered to be a valuable method in treatment of distal tibial shaft fracture after failure of closed treatment and in special
circumstances.
From Dec. 1988 to Dec. 1990, forty-five patients having distal tibial shaft fractures were carried out plating with May Anatomical Bone Plate at Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dae Han Hospital.
@ES The results are as follows;
@EN 1. Among 45 patients, 27 cases were male and 18 cases were female. The distribution of age was from 17 years to 71 years. The mean age was 41.7 years and the most common cause of injury was traffic accident.
2. The mean duration of the bone union was 20.5 weeks.
3. The complications were 4 delayed unions, 1 nonunion and 1 superficial infection.
Through these results, may anatomical Bone plating in the distal tibia shaft fracture seem to be a valuable method because of having self reduction potentiality, relative rigid fixation of distal fracture fragment and allowing early ROM of ankle
joint.
