Prenatal Detection of a Fetal Ovarian Cyst by Ultrasound
Abstract
There have been only a few case reports of the prenatal sonographic detection of fetal ovarian cysts in the literature.
A large fetal ovarian cyst can cause life threatening complications(dystocia, rupture and torsion) during parturition and in the neonatal period, although most cysts are small and clinically fhsignificant.
We have experienced one case of fetal ovarian cyst detected antenatally at 32 weeks of gestation and followed up at 2 week interval prior to brith and one month after birth by sonography.
Serial ultrasound examinations during pregnancy and neonatal period are recommended to monitor the growth of the cyst and possible complications,
