Abstract

|
Studies were performed to observe the effect of steroid hormones, sodium barbital and sodium deoxych¡©olate on oxidative phoshorylation in mitochondria from aged rats.
The results were summarized as follows.
1. Oxygen consumption was decreased by steroid hormone in liver mitochondria from aged rats but the phosphorylation was not altered, so that P:0 ratio was increased.
2. Oxygen consumption was increased by sodium bardital in its higher concentration but the phospho¡© rylation was not altered, so that P:O ratio was decreased.
Oxygen consurrpt:on was increased by sodium deoxycholate in all the concentration employed but phosphorylation was not altered, so that P:O ratio was decreased.
