A Study on the Health Status of The Elderly

Abstract
|
|
|
This study was carried out to measure health status of the elderly. The subjects were 172 elders who have resided in Iksan. 21 elders of them was.´ in 2 pay institutions, 38 elders of them was in a free institution, and 113 elders of them at their home.
To collect data, the field survey was conducted from July 1 to August 30, 1994, by trained nursing -students. Data analysis was used percentage, mean, t- test, ANCOVA by SPSS/PC program.
The findings were as follows
1. Mental health status was higher in pay institutions than in a free.
2. Emotional health status was higher in institutions than at their home.
3. Physical and mental health status was higher in male than female.
4. Musculo-skeletal health status, sub-physical health status was lower in female than male.
Therefore, I suggest female elders is needed some nursing interventions health practices as such exercise and emotional support for elders at their home.
Finally there is needed to be defined why elders health status in institutions is higher.
