Studies on Effect of Atropine on the Heart Rate

Abstract

|
In rabbits atropine did produce little change on the heart rate. Atropine also did not affect the heart rate reduced prominentlyy by blockade of the, sympathetic¢¥ activity with either of MJ-1999, propranolol, pronethalol or bretylium. Atropine abolished the slowing of the heart induced by elevation, of the vagal stone, which was achieved by intraventricular norepinephrine administration. The heart was slowed by an intraventricular atropine but not by an intraventricular scopolamine. In conclusion, the failure of atropine to produce tachycardia in rabbits seems to originate from the low, vagal tope, and the inborn high rate of heart heat of rabbits seems to be related to the sympathetic activity.
