Quantitative Analysis of the Number of Mast Cells in Gastric Ulcer and Cancer

Abstract
This study was under taken in order to comparative observation on the distribution of mast cells in surgical specimen between gastric ulcer and cancer.
Quantitative analysis of the number of mast cells were carried out in 30 cases of gastric ulcer, 25 cases of medullary cancer and 15 cases of scirrhous cancer of the stomach. And following results were obtained.
1. In gastric ulcer, the numbers of mast cells were 2 or 3 fold increase in muscular layer and base of ulcer in comparison with gastric mucosa and serosal layer.
2. There was a marked decrease in the number of mast cells in surgical specimen of the stomach cancer in comparison with gastric ulcer.
3. In the scirrhous cancer of the stomach it is shown that the numbers of mast cells were more increased in the stromal connective tissue, muscular layer and cancer nest than medullary cancer.
