The Fine Structure of the Parathyroid Gland of Suncus Murinus

Abstract
The fine structure of the parathyroid glands of normal Suncus murinus was studied by electron microscopy.
The parathyroid gland of the Suncus murinus was composed of only the chief cells. Most of the chief cells contained numerous mitochondria, well developed Golgi complex, lamellar arrays of endoplasmic reticulum and serectory granules.
The serectory granules (150-250mu in diameter) were round and homogeneously dense bodies which were bounded by limiting membrane. Proserectory granules enclosed in a loosely fitting membrane were found in the cytoplasm outside or inside the Golgi complex. In a Golgi complex, smaller vesicles contained less dense material, and larger vesicles more dense one. In the cytoplasm heterogenously dense bodies, vacuolar bodies and irregularly shaped masses were observed.
The capillary endothelium showed several pores and thin cytoplasm. In the present study, the mutual correlation between serectory granules and inclusion bodies could not be confirmed.
