Relations between Experimentally Induced Cerebral Aneurysms and Estrogen in Rats

Abstract
Clinically it is well known that the incidence of aneurysms increases significantly after menopause in women and also in the young females, that of atherosclerosis is low because of protective function of estrogen. Therefore this experiment was performed to study relations between experimentally induced cerebral aneurysms and estrogen in female rats, which were treated with ligation of left common carotid carotid artery, induced hypertension and bilateral oophorectomy and were divided into two experimental groups; with estrogen therapy (group II) and no therapy(group I ).
The results obtained were as follows;
1. Body weight was significantly increased in group I (316¡¾4.4gm) but was suppressed by estrogen injection in group II(238.4¡¾6. 1gm) .
2. The degree of induced hypertension in group II injected estrogen(140. 6¡¾ 6.3mmHg) was less increased than that of group I (155.3¡¾4.2mmHg)
3. The incidences of induced aneurysms were more higher in group I (36.8%) as compared with group II(5.9% )
These observations were considered to be enough to prove the clinical fact that incidence of cerebial aneurysm is significantly high in postmenopausal women.
