Echocardiogram of the right pulmonary artery in the patients with congestive heart failure

Abstract

|
Thirty seven subjects wiith severe congestive heart failure and 56 control subjects were examined by suprasternal M-mode echocardiogam. The dimensions of the right pulmonary artery(RPA) and the systolic widening ratio were measured. The RPA dimensions at the beginning of atrial systole(a-dip), at the isovolumic contraction of the right ventricle(IC) and the largest dimension in systole were all significantly increased in the group with congestive heart failure in each of whom the pulmonary hypertension was supposed to be present.
The ratio of systolic widening of the RPA was slightly decreased in the group with congestive heart failure but the difference was not significant.
