Effect of Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate on the Gentamicin Treatment of Klebsiella pneumoniae Infected Mouse

Abstract
To evaluate the therapeutic effect of corticosteroid drug in Klebsiella pneumaniae septicemia, methylprednisolone sodium succinate(30mg/ kg) and gentamicin(50 mg/kg) were administered alone or in combination to mice infected with LDl00 of Klebsiella Pneumoniae. And following results were obtained:
1) Gentamicin administration alone showed slight therapeutic effect with 66-7% to 85% death of mice.
2) When methylprednisolone sodium succinate was administered, alone once, there was no significant difference from the control. When administered twice, decrease in the mortality was observed at first or second days, while no difference at 7th day.
3) When gentamicin and methylprednisolone sodium succinate were administered, a significant therapeutic effect was observed. Especially when methylprednisolone sodium succinate was administered twice and gentamicin was administered ten times by four hours¢¥ interval, the therapeutic effect was the better than the others.
