Surgical Reduction of the Spondylolisthesis Using Harrington Instrumentation

Abstract
Five Patients of the spondylolisthesis who had been treated by surgical reduction using Harrington instrumentation combined with anterior interbody fusion as a single staged operation were reviewed. Ages of the patients were between 19 to 53 years old. Types of spondylolisthesis were degenerative in three cases and spondylolytic in two cases. Degrees of spondylolisthesis were Meyerding grade II in all cases and the average slippage in percentage was 32
Correction rate of the slippage at final follow up was 77% and the improvement of slip angle was 7 degrees. Solid interbody fusion with minimal loss of correction was achieved in all. Ambulation was allowed two weeks after operation with external support of Knight type brace. The implanted Harrington instruments were removed between five to twelve months after operation. The results of all cases during the follow up period of more than two years were satisfactory without any significant pain and neurological symptoms.
