Dorsalis Pedis Flap Transfer for the Skin Defects in the Hindfoot Areas

Abstract
Skin defect in the heel, heel pad, and the lateral malleolar prominent area where receives the friction by Budha-sitting position requires special consideration, for the coverage of these areas need to have the original thickness and protective sensory function.
Dorsalis pedis neurovascular island flap can meet this demand, providing the good sensory function, and also has the advantage of simple operative procedure without microscopic technique. The only disadvantages are that flap is thin, coverage area limited, and the donor site is left with pain.
We performed the 9 cases of dorsalis pedis flap transfer during the last 4 years, from January, 1983 to September, 1986, with satisfactory results.
