Comparison of Intravenous Oxytocin and Prostaglandin E©ü Vaginal Tablet in Women With P. R . O. M. and without Uterine Contraction

Abstract
To induce cervical priming and labor, 20 nulliparous term pregnant women with premature rupture of the membranes and without uterine contraction randomly received either oxytocin intravenously or 3mg prostaglandin E2 vaginal tablet.
Two of ten women receiving oxytocin were delivered by cesarean sections and the remaining 8 patients were delivered vaginally within 24 hours of induction. In contrast, all of ten women receiving prostaglandin E2 vaginal tablet were delivered vaginally within 24 hours of induction.
The increment of Bishop score after 6 hours of induction was statistically significant in either oxytocin group or prostaglandin E2 group, but there was no. statistical significance between two groups. Average induction-delivery time was also statistically insignificant between two groups.
Although there was no statistical significance between two groups in average Bishop score increment of 6 hours of induction and in average induction-delivery time, both methods were effective in. inducing labor of term pregnant. women with P. R. 0. M. , and prostaglandin E2 vaginal tablet seems to be preferable because of its convenience in use and all successful vaginal deliveries without complications.
