Abstract
Clinical Effects of Pimozide on Schisophrenia
By double blind method, the authors have tried the pharmacological effect of pimozide in 30 schizophrenics in comparison with that of chlorpromazine in 31 schizophrenics for loweeks. BPRS and side effect checklist were applied in evaluating the change of symptoms. The results of the study are as follows.
1. During the experimental period, pimozide group received lmg to 6mg and chlorpromaline group received 200mg to 1200mg.
2. Both groups showed clinical improvement generally and in the 3rd and 6th week pimozide group showed significant antipsychotic effect.
3. By cluster analysis, it was proved that pimo zide and chlorpromazine don¢¥t show the significant difference in paranoid and thought disturbance cluster.
4. Also it was proved that pimozide showed clinical effect in depression and withdrawal cluster than chlorpromazine.
5. In adverse effect, chlorpromazine group patients complained many extrapyramidal symptoms and nonspecific symptoms i.e. drowsiness, dizziness, sialorrhea and dry mouth, but pimozide group patients rarely complained the side effects.
