Meige¢¥s Disease: Overview and Case Report

Abstract
This rare disease is a bizarre disabling movement disorder of the elderly, characterized chiefly by symmetrical dystonic contraction and spasms of mouth retraction and jaw opening. At times, other midline muscles such as the tongue and the palatopharyngeal, respiratory and neck muscles may be involved.
It¢¥s etiological base is suggested to be due to relative striatal dopaminergic hyperactivity and also relative cholinergic hyperactivity in the basal ganglia.
The authors reported 2 new cases in our country and reviewed other foreign cases through reference articles.
