A Study on Patients¡¯ Satisfaction factors on Emergency Medical Service Provided in an Emergency Room

Abstract
Objectives : As the tendency to seek for high quality medical service is increasing due to the increased income and high standard of living. In this study, the authors tried to find out the level of satisfaction with the service provided at an emergency room of a hospital.

Materials and Method : For the study organized questionnaires were used The subjects were 200 patients and families who visited and treated at an emergency room of a university hospital The data collected from 24th July 2000 to 22nd August same year.

Results : 1. The level of satisfaction with the service provided In the emergency rooms was 346. 2 The satisfaction value in married groups is higher than that of the unmarried group and those who were widowed(p= 0172). 3. In the presence of help from hospital staff, satisfaction of the group who had help is higher than that of the group who did not have one(p=.001) The group who had emergency service shorter than ten minutes after they arrived at the emergency room were more satisfied than the group who received medical service than the groups in thirty minutes and 11-30min after they arrived(p=.0005).

Conclusion : By varimax factor analysis, 7 factors were analysed as follows¡¤"Nurses", "Doctors",¡¤"Explanation and Information", "Time", "Comfort", "Nervousness", and "Noise" and the level of satisfaction of the each factors were nurses¡¤405 doctors¡¤3.78, explanation and information .378, time .3.49, comfort .3.35.
