Purification and Antibiotic Activity Studies of the Antimicrobial Protein from Human Amniotic Fluid
Park Sung-Chul

Abstract
An Antimicrobial protein was isolated from human amniotic fluid through dialysis, ultrafiltration, and C18 reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography. This protein, which we named AMPAF, antimicrobial protein from amniotic fluid, possessed antimicrobial activity but no hemolytic activity. This protein inhibited pathogenic microbial strains, including Candida albicans and Listeria monocytogenes. Tricine gel electrophoresis revealed that the molecular mass of AMPAF was about 20 kDa. These results suggest that the AMPAF is an excellent candidate as a lead compound for the development of antifungal agents
