Abstract
It is generally known that the color of the skin can be made to change in the gold fish by various. factors such as the living environment, the mental excitation or the administration of automatic drugs or of the extract of the posterior hypophysis. However, it is not known whether the hyper tonicity of the living medium could alter the color or not. In order to explore this problem, this investigation was undertaken as¢¥ follows.
1.6 gold fishes with pure red(no black spot) skin were chosen and were dived into two groups, i. e. the control and the test groups. The test group was maintained in 1.2% NaCl solution for a month while the control was in tap water bath and maintained for another month. The dispersing melanophore cells were recovery considerably buy never recovered to a control level during this reduced period. The mechanism (s) underlying this change in the skin color in hypertonic NaCl solution is still unknown. Various possibilities were discussed and it is postulated that perhaps there is sume neurohumoral mechanism responsible for linkage between the osmoreceptor and the intermediary lobe of hypophysis.
