Cathartic action of Anthraquinone derivatives contained in several crude drugs.

Abstract
In Polygonaceae family R¢¥ieum undulatum L., Rumex japonicus Houttuyn and Reynoutria elliptica (kuidzumi) migo, the Anthraquinone amounts are determined quantitatively, and comparative pharmacological effects are obtained by the observation of several experimental animals such as albino mice, albino rats, rabbits and dogs. .
Among Rheum undulatum L., Rumex Japonicus Houttuyn, and Reynoutria elliptica, Rheum. undulatum L. contained the large amount of anthraquinone, and next Rumex japonicus Houttuyn and the least Reynoutria elliptica.
Reynoutria elliptica has greater toxicity than the others. The effect of cathartic action of these crude drugs are not proportional to anthraquinone content,
The effect of cathartic action of Rheum undulatum L. on a given rabbits required large amount than the other animals, and its effect is prominent.
But the effect of cathartic action on a given dog required the least amount and is prominent in the action of Rheum undulatum L.
