Effect of reducing agents on the inactivation of dysentery phage of dye

Abstract
The author has investigated the effect of reducing agents on the inactivation of dysentery phage of crystal violet and obtained the following results.
The activity of dysentery phage was destroyed by the ethanol and ascorbic acid while the phage was relatively stable in glucose solution. The destroying activity of ascorbic acid was more remarkable than ethanol.
The sensitivity of dysentery phage to dye was not changed even though the phage is pretreated in reducing agents.
The phage inactivating activity of dye was inhibited by the glucose and ascorbic acid and the action of glucose was stronger than ascorbic acid. The ethanol did not show any. influence to the action of dye.
The inhibiting activity of dye-action of reducing agents was almost completely stopped by aeration and no synergistic action between the glucose and ascorbic acid was found.
