One case of giant hypertrophy of the gastric mucosa is presented. The patient was 17-years old girl who complained of weakness, dizziness and vague indigestion for these 4 years.
Physical examination revealed marked pallor slight edema and fist sized epigastric mass. Laboratory examination disclosed marked hypochromic microcytie anemia, persistant occult, blood in the stool and gastric anasidity.
Exploratory laparotomy was performed because massive melena and circulatory collapse developed.
The wall of the stomach was diffusely and markedly thickened. The mucosal surface appeared as cerebral convolution, for the mucosal folds were thickened and irregular in pattern. Microscopic section showed enormous hyperplasia of the mucosa, infiltration of lymphocytes and plasma cells in the lamina propria, submucosal edema and perivascular infiltration of round cells. Antors reviewed the literatures on giant hypertrophy of gastric mucosa.
