3 Cases of Paragonimus Meningitis


Abstract
It is well known that paragonimus Westermani is chiefly infested in lung, which is infested also in pleura, great omentum, Brain and spinal cord. Out of the ectopic infestations of human paragonimiasis, the cerebral type is the most frequent met. According to the literature on cerebral paragonimiasis, medical treatment alone was of little or no value.
In this study, we reported 3 cases of paragonimus meningitis associated with pulmonary paragonimiasis, which were treated successfully with use of Bithional patients were male in all cases, the age were 13, 18 and 45 years.
Their cardinal symptoms were manifestations of meningeal irritation such as mild
headache, vomiting, convulsion or afaxia and mild degree of fever.
Significant physical findings were positive Kernig¢¥s sign and stiffness of neck. Important laboratory findings were mild degree of leucocytosis, Eosinophilia (4-14%) in peripheral blood, presence of ova of paragonimus westermani in sputum.
Points of interested in spinal fluid were increased contents to protein, decreased contents of sugar and chloride increased number of pleocyte and presence of eosinophile (2 of 3 cases).
