Abstract

|
The essential features of this condition appear to be a skull fracture with underlying dural tear which occurs in early childhood. It has usually occurred in association with long, linear, diastatic fractures so that when original films are subsequently reviewed it become evident the fracture was at least several millimeters in width. Because this lesion has ordinarily been associated with closed head injury, laceration of the underlying dura remains unrecognized and initially not repaired.
We are reporting 3 cases of leptomeningeal cysts that we have treated surgically. Two cases are illustrated here, and the literature is reviewed.
