Studies on the Absorption Spectrum of the Distillated-extracts from Cnidii Rhizoma

Abstract
The absorption spectrum of clear supernatant filtrate from the distillatedextract in Cnidii Rhizoma, Astragalli Radix and Rehmanniae Radix have been investigated in the identification and determination of the spectral properties from ultraviolet range to visible range. And results were obtained as follows:
1) The absorption spectrum band of Cnidii Rhizoma, Astragalli Radix and
Rehmanniae Radix shows a maximum wavelength at 200?250 nm of the
ultraviolet absorption.
2) The wavelength of minimum absorption in the all three distillated-extracts exhibits at 300950 nm.
3) The proper selection of optimum wavelength in the Cnidii Rhizoma is found at 255 nm of the ultraviolet absorption.
4) The ratio of E28onm/E260nm is calculated in 0.5 of the Cnidii Rhizoma, 0.73 of the Astragalli Radix and 0.71 of the Rehmanniae Radix.
Considering all the experimental results mentioned as above, it might be suggested that the identification of the Cnidii Rhizoma is easily recognized from the Astragalli Radix and Rehmanniae Radix, and that optical density is confirmed due to the bases of purine(adenine, guanine) and pyrimidine(cytosine, thymine, uracil) which is containing in the other biomolecules like nucleic acid and nucleotides.
