Abstract

|
|
Data are given of a series of 200 cases with skull fracture, admitted to the National Medical Center during last 3 years. The data are compared with linear skull fracture and depressed skull fracture. Intracranial complications as hematomas and, vessels torn. etc. are highly combined with linear skull fracture than depressed skull fracture.
Treatment is discussed, especially large craniotomy for intracranial hematomas has many advantages and suggested as reduced operative mortality compared with burr holes method and subtemporal decompressive procedure. Also craniotomy for the depressed skull fracture with duration is proposed sufficient operative field for debridement of dura and cerebral cortex, dura graft, removal of the intracranial
hematomas, anatomical reduction of the depressed fragments and not necessity of the cranioplasty.
Over-all mortality of the skull fracture cases is 12.5% and linear skull fracture showed 17% mortality compared with 9 % of depressed skull fracture cases.
