The Electrophoretic Pattern of Serum Protein in Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Abstract
|
|
|
Protein fraction and total serum protein of 128 patients with various form of pulmonary tuberculosis were investigated by the paper electrophoresis method.
It was found that total protein was decreased to comparing to control group but not outside of physiological normal limit.
Albumin was decreased and Alpha 2 and Gamma globulin were increased. These changes were more pronounced in very severe and wide spread processes and also fresh and not treated group.
Increase of Alpha 1 and- Beta globulin were not prominent. As the acute phase is over by efficacious treatment, normalization of the ratio of albumin to total globulin was noted with normalization of protein picture.
Persisting low albumin and high Alpha 2. Gamma globulin in spite of treatment seems to be indicated poor prognosis on this study.
