Studies on Culture Method of Quail Embryo Fibroblast Cells for Propagation of Newcastle Disease Virus

Abstract
These studies were undertaken to establish the culture system of the quail embryo fibroblast cells and to clarity the adaptability of Newcastle disease virus on QEF cells.
The results obtained are summarized as follows:
Nine-day-old quail embryos were most favorable in the culture of QEF cells, Most of the cells could be obtainable from the embryos, and the cell sheet derived from these cells were most suitable for the propagation.
The media contained the bovine serum were very helpful for the cell growth. The higher content of the serum in the earlier cell growth was useful, but the serum was shown the degeneration of the cells. The 6% bovine serum was most suitable as the growth medium for the cell growth.
The clearer cell sheets were obtained by the greater number of the cell suspension.
The growth of NDV on QEF was inferior to that on chicken embryos. The HA activity and viral infectivity of the NDV in the growth of the QEF were not reached to the level of the NDV growth in the chicken embryos.
