An Experimental Study on Differences of Pulse Deficit Readings by Serial and Simultaneous Measurement
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare pulse deficit as computed from data obtained by a simultaneous measurement of apical and radial pulse with that obtai-ned from serial measurement.
The experimental subject was 20 adult patients with reported pulse deficit and 30 normal nursing students.
The experiment was conducted July 4 to Aug. 30,1983. Under the 4 hypotheses designed for this study, the results obtained were as follow;
1) There was significant difference of pulse deficit by the simultaneous readings and serial readings with the apical beat taken first in time of adult patients with pulse deficit (p<0. 05).
2) There was significant difference of pulse deficit by the simultaneous readings and serial readings with the radial beat taken first in time of adult patients with pulse deficit (p<0. 05).
3) There was significant difference of pulse deficit by the simultaneous readings and serial readings with the apical beat taken first in time of normal adults (p<0. 001).
4) There was significant difference of pulse deficit by the simultaneous readings and serial readings with the radial beat taken first in time of normal adults (p< 0.001).
