A Study on Cultural Looks of Pregnancy Management in Korea



Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out Foods and Behaviors to eschew and take during pregnancy, and foods and methods can be helped during labor and delivery according to the cultural background for the nursing intervention design befitting our culture.
The subjects for this study were 520 randomly from 10 regions in south Korea.
The data was collected through questionnaire and interview from July 1st to 30th, 1986. Data analysis included percentage and x2-test by SAS.
The findings are as follows.
1. Foods to eschew during pregnancy came out 44 varieties including a chicken meat, duck meat, invertebrate fishes, hot and salty foods, dog meat and wine. The main causes to eschew came out 26 varieties including taking after these foods¢¥ figure, effects on fetal health, birth of a deformed child.
2. Behaviors to eschew came out 45 varieties including a heavy exercise, long time travel, quarrel, anger & seeing doing like this and coveting what belongs to others. The main causes came out 20 varieties including a risk of abortion, bad effects on fetus.
3. State of mind to take came out 44 varieties including a goodness & gentleness, peaceful & tranquil mind, honesty, and pleasant & delightful mind. The main causes came out 10 varieties including effects on fetus mind, personality and emotion, and for fetal education.
4. Foods to take in pregnancy came out 34 varieties including fruits, meat, milk, vegetables, and anchovy. The main causes came out 18 varieties including effects on fetal health and development, mother¢¥s nutrition supplement, and for easy childbirth.
5. Behaviors to take during pregnancy came out 43 varieties including adequate work & exercise, careful action, and listening a good music and seeing a picture. The main causes
came out 13 varieties including for easy childbirth, effects on fetal health and effects on fetus¢¥ mind, personality and emotion.
6. Foods to be helped during labor and delivery came out 20 varieties including egg, pork meat, and raw egg. The main causes came out 16 varieties including for easy childbirth, making mother¢¥s energy stronger, and getting a baby to be smooth.
