Stress Level in Nursing Students According to the Leadership Style of Head Nurses


Abstract
This study was designed to elucidate the stress level in nursing students perceived during clinical practice according to the leadership style of head nurses. One hundred and seventy two nursing students from 2 junior college located in Chollbuk-do were surveyed by means of questionaire for six weeks from Oct. 17, 1988.
The result were as follows.
1. An analysis of relationship of nursing students¢¥ stress level during clinical practice and general characteristics showed statistically significant difference for: religion (P=.0000), satisfaction degree on nursing science (P=.0000), satisfaction degree on clinical practice (P=.0000), expected working period as a nurse (P=.0213), the specific ward where the nursing student practice (P=.0000).
2. The 21 questionnaires concering stress during clinical practice were categorized into 4 factors: Nursing activity showed highest stress score of 3.302 in 5.000 and those of others factors were in order of role (3.088), environment (3.079) and schedule of practice (2.579). The item of "Repetition of simple and physical job" and "when the nursing students should do trivial and extraneous labor" showed highest score of 3.901 and 3.738, respectively.
3. An analysis of relationship of nursing students stress level and leadership style head nurses showed statistically significant difference (P=.0000).
