Literature Review on the Family Functions of Asthmatic Children

Abstract
Bronchial asthma is a fairly common psychosomatic disorder in childhood.
The causes of asthma are complex.
Three broad classes of potential primary and secondary etiological agents: allergies, respiratory infections, psychological stimuli and emotional upsets, are interrelated.
Furthemore, resultant asthma attacks may have additional psychological consequences.
And etiological factors and psychological consequences of the asthma are closely related to the family functions.
Structural-functional family theories define the basic family functions as affective, socialization, health care, reproductive and economic. Many researchers have focused on the interrelationships of family functions and health of the family members, however, limited to maternal-child interaction, child-rearing attitude, and family transactional pattern.
Considering multidimensional aspects of asthma, it is essential to identify and explain the family functions of asthmatic children; especially affective, socialization, and health care. This will, no doubt, lead to new direction in the child health nursing.
