A Study of Relationship Between Visual Acuity and Socioenvironmental Factors

Abstract
For investigate the cause or progression of low vision, author surveyed and analysed the data from 5131 middle & high school students located Taejeon city and the country of Chung Nam province about visual acuity, height, body weight and other socioenvironmental factors including reading distance, duration of near work, duration of watching T.V., distance of viewing T.V., reading posture, type of illumination, level of TY. set.
1. The incidence of low vision (below 0.9) was 42.66 %, and mean visual acuity was 0.9415 ¡¾ 0.5176.
2. The visual acuity of boys and rural students was better than girls and urban students.
3. There was not relationship between visual acuity and height, body weight statistically.
4. Reading distance, duration of reading, distance of viewing T.V. was closely correlated to visual acuity.
