A Study on the Degree of the Role Performance and Perception of the Importance in Nursing Curriculu of Community Health Nurse


Abstract
In order to investigate to the degree of role performance and perception of the importance in curriculum of community health nurses, this survey was conducted from February 6th to March 6th, 1989. The subjects were 19 school nurses, 19 nurses in-health center, 22 occupational nurses and 22 community health practitioners in Kwangju and Chonnam area.
The result were as follows;
1. General characteristics of the subjects. In their age, 25(30.9%) of total subjects were in 30-39 age group and their average age was 34.4 years. In their education, 54 (66.7 %) subjects graduated in diploma course and 35 (43.2 %) of them have field experience under 5 years and its average was 8.2 years.
2. In the degree of role performance, school nurses marked relative high score in manager (3.5), team member (4.0), data collector (4.1) and counselor (3.9).
Care provider (4.3) and evaluator (3.5) was marked high in occupational nurses and promotor (3.5), counselor (4.1), educator (3.6) in CHP.
But the scores of nurses in health center were lower than other groups relatively.
3. In the degree of perception of the importance in nursing curriculum, school nurses perceived more important the role as care provider (4.2) and educator (4.2), nurses in health center in care provider (4.0), counselor (39), occupational nurses in care provider (4.6) and educator (4.6) and CHP in counselor (4.2), educator (3.9).
However, occupational nurses marked higher score than other groups in all items and all the subjects highly recognized the importance of those roles as counselor (4.2), educator (4.2) and care provider (4.1).
4. In the relationship between role performance and the perception of the importance in nursing curriculum, the scores in role performance showed significant lower than those of the importance perception in nursing curriculum and the subjects suggested further teaching in basic nursing education.
