An Experimental Study of Hemolysis by Mechanical Active Mass, Using Cr-^51-Tagged Erythrocytes

Abstract
The wfluence of mechanical active mass on hemolysis of Cr51-tagged erythrocytes of the healthy men, pregnant women, human fetuses, rabbits, cattle and chicken was studied in saline solution of various concentration.
The degree of hemolysis is expressed by the following formula.
A/BX100=degree of hemolysis %/ml.
A: Radioactivity of the supernatant(I.Oml) of Cr51-tagged erythrocyte saline solution.
B: Radioactivity of the supernatant (1.Oml) of Cr51-tagged erythrocyte suspension in water. The results obtained are as follows:
1. Although the type of hemolytic curves of the erythrocytes of various kinds is similar to one another, the hemolysis in hypotonic saline solution(less than 0.5%) is in general more marked than that in hypertonic one(more than 6.0 / )
2. If different mechanical active masses are given to the erythrocytes of various kinds in the oligolytic concentration (0.85/0), the degree of hemolysis become increased as the mechanic active mass increases, except for the erythrocytes of the cattle.
